Dancer of the Week - Mikella Daigle
Mikella is our Miracles Dancer of the Week! Learn more about her!
Mikella is not your average 23 year old. At first, she may appear quiet, but you when you get to know Mikella you quickly learn that she is one of the most self-disciplined and motivated people you will ever meet. Mikella is currently doing her Masters in Molecular Biology... “What is that?” you ask. Well, her project involves identifying the presence of certain molecules that could potentially regulate testosterone production in mice.“Yeah, it's pretty nerdy,” she says.
As if working on her Masters wasn’t time consuming enough, Mikella also finds time to work-out, paint, read and take dance classes, along with being a Miracles Dancer. This is Mikella’s third year on the Miracles Dance Team, and her commitment to the team is truly appreciated!
“Deciding to audition for the Miracles dance team is definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life so far.” she told us. After graduating High School, Mikella thought her performing days were behind her, after all, being a full-time university student was incredibly time-consuming. When she heard about the Miracles Dance Team, she was very intrigued by the idea of dancing for a sports team (something she had never done before). “Since I’ve been a part of this team, I’ve met so many new and interesting people. I’ve had the chance to meet community leaders, people who’ve traveled the world and I’ve made some lifelong friends.”
Mikella started dancing when she was 11 years old because her best friend at the time, who had been dancing forever, convinced her to try a hip hop class. She enjoyed it so much, that the next dance semester, she added jazz, ballet and tap to her schedule. Before she knew it, dance had become a central part of her life, “I was part of the DancEast performance stream and I was dancing everyday and performing in recitals and productions,” she explains. Since her start, Mikella has performed in multiple productions of the Nutcracker, traveled to British Columbia on a dance exchange and recently was a lead in Matt LeBlanc’s FUSION 2013.
Since then, Mikella has made dance a huge part of her life! “My dance inspiration would have to be one of my dance instructors, Grace Caines,” she says. “She's an awesome teacher and an awesome choreographer. She also only started dancing when she was 17 years old so I find that pretty amazing. She's definitely the reason why I keep training and taking dance classes outside of Miracles practices.” Mikella also said she has to give credit to her Mom and Dad, they've taught her good values and they continue to do so.
To people who may not know her, Mikella may come off quiet and shy; she has been told that she is mysterious and unpredictable. This may be true, but every now and then, people are surprised by her sense of humor and outrageous outbursts of energy. Just ask her teammates! After Mikella finishes her Masters Degree she would like to work in a fertility clinic. “I like doing lab work and I find embryology interesting so I’m hoping that’s the job for me! I’d also like to do some traveling. I’ve lived in Moncton my whole life so I’m feeling the need to explore.”
We are confident that Mikella will have the opportunity to explore the world! After all, she is incredibly, smart, talented, and motivated - She is a girl with big dreams and the Miracles are happy to have her as a part of our family!
